The Adder - LISSOME BEAUTY

Danger and ambush, but also wisdom and perception – the snake has always been a mythical creature, to which the most varied characteristics are attributed. The mysterious adder is one of the rarest and most beautiful snakes in Germany.

The adder is roughly the length of an arm with a characteristic zig-zag band on its back and is the only poisonous domestic snake in Germany. Just the mention of its name causes fear in many people. But this fairly shy animal looks worse than it is and disappears at the slightest movement. A meeting with an adder seldom happens and when it does, is so unusual that it should be enjoyed rather than feared, as they use their poison to kill their prey, not as defence.

In the protected environment of the National Park region, however, the chances of seeing one of these unusual and threatened animals are very slight.
