Zwiesel

Zwiesel

The town is famous for its centuries old tradition of glassmaking. Evidence of this can be found everywhere: in glassworks, work shops and galleries, in the pyramid of thousands of  wine glasses, the glass chapel and the glass museum in the little chateau in Theresienthal. The Waldmuseum has a scale model of a glassmakers‘ village as well as many impressive items of glassware.

The town enjoys an idyllic location, along the Regen rivers. Places and events such as the underground caverns, the Grenzlandfest and Zwieseler Fink, Glass Days and Nights attract thousands of visitors every year. Zwiesel is also famous for winter sports on the Arber and as organiser of the World Cup ski races held there.

Zwiesel‘s mascot is the capercaillie, also the mascot of the Bavarian Forest Natural Park, which has its headquarters in Zwiesel as well as an informative visitors’ centre with interesting exhibitions of the geology, flora and fauna of the region.
