Rejštejn

Rejštejn

The first mention of Rejštejn as an important settlement was in 1337. The community achieved an independent existence only 1584, when Rudolf II elevated it to the status of royal mountain town. Rejštejn owes its existence to panning and mining for gold.

The world famous glassworks, founded by Jan Eisner in the monastery mill in 1836, plays a particularly important role in the town’s history. Glass production came to an end in 1947. Our neighbours in Tittling built a copy of the glassworks in there in the 1970s.

Rejštejn was also visited by the author Karel Klostermann. He placed the action of some of his novels and stories here.
In 2007 Rejštejn again achieved the status of a town.
