Kašperské Hory

Kašperské Hory lies in the centre of the Middle Bohemian Forest and is the highest altitude gothic town in Bohemia. The town owes its existence to gold mining. The importance of the town was emphasized under Charles IV with the founding of Kašperk castle and growth in trading routes which linked Bohemia and Bavaria. There are many historic monuments in and around the town. Near Kašperk castle  are the Gothic St. Nicholas basilica with three naves, St. Margaret’s church, the pilgrimage church of Márie Snežnej, the historic town hall and other monuments. The scenery around Kašperské Hory is some of the best in the Bohemian Forest, with enchanting natural beauty to be enjoyed on hikes through the area.
