The motto of the Bavarian Forest National Park „Let nature be nature“ means that all visitors to the region can witness the unique regeneration of the forest. Together with the neighbouring Czech Nationalpark Šumava, the  ‚Untamed Nature National Park region‘ forms a huge forested area of more than 900 km² - the largest area of protected forest in Central Europe! It is no surprise that the Bavarian Forest National Park was the first designated German National Park 40 years ago.
A unique wilderness is to be found in this cross border landscape. With rare and fascinating wild animals such as lynx, owls, otters and peregrine falcons. And also a fascinating man-made environment with impressive landmarks along the „Glasstraße“ and the new long distance path, the „Goldsteig“, which also passes through the National Park. A treat for families and children, for inquisitive young ‚forest rangers‘ and an eldorado for active holidaymakers, who want to be out in the forest in summer and winter, on foot, by bike or on skis.
